Questions
Do I need to buy a device?
Not necessarily. Your phone is enough to estimate land area and record approximate locations. For more precise positions, use a compatible RTK receiver and correction service. Dipper Go is in development.
How accurate is phone GPS compared with RTK?
Phone GPS is typically accurate to a few meters in open sky. RTK can provide centimeter-level positions with a compatible receiver, corrections, and internet in suitable conditions. Map tracing depends on the imagery and point placement.
How much do the apps cost?
All InsightSpatial apps are free, with no ads and no account: Dipper Area Measure today, and Dipper Field and Dipper Layout when they are released. We plan to keep the core features that work on your device free, and to charge only for optional online services, such as cloud storage and RTK corrections.
Can I use my existing RTK account?
Dipper Area Measure has a built-in NTRIP connection for compatible correction services. Check your provider's coverage and receiver requirements, then enter its connection details in the app.
Which phones and receivers are supported?
Dipper Area Measure runs on iPhone, iPad, and Android, and connects to receivers that output standard NMEA over Bluetooth LE or Wi-Fi.
Where is my data stored?
App measurement projects and field records stay on your device. If you connect to a correction service, the app may send the receiver location as needed by that service. Website visit and sign-up information is covered by our privacy policy.
No cell signal where I work?
RTK corrections arrive over the internet. Satellite internet such as Starlink works. Without any internet connection, you will not get centimeter-level RTK positions.
Can I use it for legal boundary surveys?
No. Our products are for measuring, layout, and record-keeping, and do not replace a licensed land surveyor.
* Centimeter-level positioning requires a compatible RTK receiver, a correction service, an internet connection, and open sky. Results depend on the equipment and conditions. Phone GPS is typically accurate to a few meters; map tracing depends on the imagery and where you place points.
